Our Story

After graduating from University, Number Engine's founder Trace Bowen became interested in starting a small brewing business. After thorough research, Trace built a model of a simple brewing operation to gauge economic viability.

He quickly became concerned with the difficulty in optimizing a production plan and sought solutions. Some searching later reminded Trace of a neat little math concept that he learned about back in school (Linear Programming) and a convenient spreadsheet tool to do it!

Unfortunately though, this tool could only be used with Microsoft Excel, which hid behind an expensive paywall. For that reason, Trace was always a big Google Workspace fan and appreciated their devotion to open-source initiatives - so he gravitated to that workspace instead.

To his dismay, this search was also futile. Google Sheets had no viable solutions - only ones with horrible reviews that appeared to steal the user's data. Seeing this abysmal state of online spreadsheet solver tools, Trace decided to take matters into his own hands and figure out how to make his own solution from scratch! After spending the next year in development from the ground up, Number Engine was born.

Now, Number Engine seeks to provide affordable access to a high quality spreadsheet solver for the web to everyone!
